Announcing a Leadership Transition at Global Integrity

Global Integrity is today announcing an important milestone in our continued growth: a transition at the Executive Director position. In the coming months, founding Executive Director Nathaniel Heller will be transitioning out of the role he has held since co-founding Global Integrity with Marianne Camerer and Charles Lewis in 2005.

While this is a bittersweet moment for both Global Integrity and Nathaniel, it also signals important progress towards the continued maturation of the organization. We’re excited for what’s to come and remain fully committed to Global Integrity’s growth and continued impact.

While not all of the details of the transition have been finalized, we’re happy to share what we know as of today:

This is a fully amicable transition. Nathaniel is leaving of his own volition to pursue a new opportunity at Results for Development, bringing his considerable expertise on transparency and accountability to issues of service delivery and development. You can read more about Nathaniel’s future plans on his personal blog.

Nathaniel will remain in his current role through much of the rest of this calendar year. We will publicly share the definitive transition plan and timetable once it is finalized.

We’re proud to announce changes to our board leadership. Effective immediately, the board has elected Marianne Camerer and Mark Davies as co-presidents, Global Integrity’s de facto board chair position. Marianne and Mark, both founding directors, are eager to guide the organization into its next phase. Nathaniel will be stepping down from the Global Integrity board in due course.

There are no plans to make any changes to Global Integrity’s current projects or initiatives. Expect to see the same great results coming out of our Africa Integrity Indicators project; the Money, Politics, and Transparency project; the State Integrity Investigation; Indaba; and our policy and advocacy work.

The OpenGov Hub will continue to operate and thrive as usual.

We wish Nathaniel all the best in his new endeavor and thank him for his service to and leadership of Global Integrity for nearly a decade.

Naturally, the Executive Director position isn’t a job we intend to leave unfilled any longer than is necessary, and the board is seeking both internal and external candidates to fill this vital position. Prospective candidates can view a full job description here on our website and submit their CVs and a brief cover note to ED-candidate@globalintegrity.org. The position will remain open until filled.

None of us diminish the significance of this transition, but with change comes opportunity.  We view it as an important moment to demonstrate that Global Integrity is an organization built to last. Our mission transcends the talents and contributions of any one person.

If you think you have what it takes to lead this dynamic organization moving forward, we’d love to hear from you.
